About Us

Providing the highest standard of veterinary service

Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre was established in 1958 and since then has been providing quality veterinary care to Hemel Hempstead and its surrounding areas. We are in a convenient location for clients, on the junction of Midland Road and Alexandra Road, and offer a large free car park right next to our practice building.

We have a great team of highly motivated veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses (RVN) and student veterinary nurses, admin staff, and professional receptionists. Barton Lodge is RCVS approved and purpose designed to offer complete medical and surgical facilities. We are also an officially approved training practice, where veterinary nurses can gain their VN qualification, and we have gained recognition for our whole practice commitment to staff training and development.

All the members of our staff are committed to providing the highest standard of veterinary service and care for our clients and their pets. Because all our staff are pet owners too, we can understand and sympathise with the feelings and concerns you have for your own pets.

The veterinary surgeon team provide a wide range of skills within the practice. Our vets have their own particular fields of interest and have followed in-depth studies in various aspects of medicine and surgery to add to the comprehensive care and expertise provided for pets by Barton Lodge Vets.

Our fully qualified team of veterinary surgeons and nurses offer the highest level of medical, surgical and diagnostic skills using state-of-the-art equipment. Our modern facilities include a dedicated operating theatre, an imaging room for ultrasonography, digital radiography and endoscopy, on-site blood testing machines and ECG.

A 24 hour out of hour and emergency service is located at the practice and is run on-site by Vets Now. Therefore, should your pet require anything from a routine appointment to an urgent hospital admission, day or night, you will always be seen right here. Also, out of hours all our hospitalised patients are cared for in-house by the Vets Now emergency staff.

The surgery is open between 8 am and 7 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturdays. Having extended opening hours gives more convenient access for our clients. We run an appointment system with 15 minute consultations, allowing us time to thoroughly assess your pet.

Our charity

Barton Lodge has adopted PetSavers as its charity.

PetSavers' aim is to improve the health of pets by relieving the distress and pain caused by diseases for which we currently have no effective treatments. Its mission is to fund vital clinical research into the prevention, treatment and/or cure of illnesses and conditions affecting pets, so that our companion animals can enjoy longer, fuller and healthier lives.

PetSavers is almost unique in being one of the few charities concerned with promoting the study of medical and surgical conditions in pets without the use of experimental animals, and this is a principle that has always been followed.

PetSavers has some very useful free to download guides: Puppy, Kitten, Rabbit, Guinea Pig, etc.

As part of their commitment to promote excellence in small animal practice, the BSAVA has developed a range of materials for members of the public and professionals to download and print out in aid of PetSavers (PetSavers guides).
