Welcome to our website and to our practice
Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre aims to provide the best of modern veterinary treatments for pets in a caring environment. Our veterinary practice is owned and run by Roger and Catherine Wickenden. Situated in central Hemel Hempstead we are in a convenient location for clients, on the junction of Midland Road and Alexandra Road. There is a large car park right next to our practice building. View 'OPENING HOURS' for our clinic appointment times and further details and maps to help clients to find us. Reception is open between 8.00 am and 7 pm. Our extended opening hours give more convenient access for our clients. Our 24 hr emergency service is located at the practice and is run by VetsNow emergencies so at nights, weekends and bank holidays you will always be seen right here, unlike at other veterinary company branch practices whose emergency services are based centrally in Watford. All hospitalised patients are cared for here on site, at night by Vets Now emergency staff. Full details of our emergency service can be found in the current issue of Practice News. Our surgery building and facilities have recently completed a major refubishment and upgrade.

There are 5 veterinary surgeons and 9 veterinary nurses plus 2 receptionists and 2 Practice Administrators. Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre was established in Hemel Hempstead over 50 years ago. It is a very long-standing family business, owned and run by Roger and Catherine Wickenden, son and daughter-in-law of the original vet Mr Peter Wickenden MRCVS. Dogs, cats, rabbits, small pets, birds and reptiles are all treated professionally and our well trained, friendly staff provide a high quality service. Because our vets and nurses are all pet owners, we can understand and sympathise with the feelings and concerns our clients have for their own pets.
Roger and Catherine Wickenden, plus 3 other veterinary surgeons, all contribute to a wide range of skills within the practice. They each have their own particular fields of interest and have followed in-depth studies in various aspects of surgery and medicine to add to the comprehensive care and expertise provided for pets by Barton Lodge vets.
For thirteen years our Head Veterinary Nurse Nicci Hawes RVN has lead our team of nine enthusiastic qualified and student Veterinary Nurses. Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre is an offical approved Training Practice where Veterinary Nurses gain their VN qualification and has received RCVS accreditation. In 2005 Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre gained recognition of our whole practice committment to staff training and development in the form of the Investors in People business award. The practice was again accredited for Investors in People and for the Practice Standards scheme in Spring 2008. In July 2010 the newly refurbished premises and facilities were reinspected for the Practice Standards scheme, ensuring that an on-going high quality service is being provided by both the Barton Lodge and Vets Now staff teams.
