Welcome to our website and to our practice
Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre aims to provide the best of modern veterinary treatments for pets in a caring environment. Our veterinary practice is in central Hemel Hempstead in a convenient location for clients, on the junction of Midland Road and Alexandra Road. There is a large car park right next to the practice building. View 'OPENING HOURS' for our clinic appointment times and further details and maps to help clients to find us. Reception is open between 8.30 am and 8 pm. Our extended opening hours give more convenient access for our clients. Our 24 hr emergency service is always available locally within Dacorum unlike some of the other local practices whose emergency services are based in Watford or even further away, involving a long journey round the M25 motorway. Currently our surgery building is undergoing a major refurbishment and upgrade. Progress and latest details can be found in the current issue of Practice News.

There are 5 veterinary surgeons and 11 veterinary nurses plus 2 receptionists and 2 Practice Administrators. Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre was established in Hemel Hempstead over 50 years ago. It is a long-standing family business, owned and run by Roger and Catherine Wickenden, son and daughter-in-law of the original vet Mr Peter Wickenden MRCVS. Dogs, cats, rabbits, small pets, birds and reptiles are all treated professionally and our staff provide a high quality, friendly service. Because our vets and nurses are all pet owners, we can understand and sympathise with the feelings and concerns our clients have for their own pets.
Roger and Catherine Wickenden, plus 3 other veterinary surgeons, all contribute to a wide range of skills within the practice. The permanent veterinary surgeons have all worked at Barton Lodge for a number of years. They each have their own particular fields of interest and have followed in-depth studies in various aspects of surgery and medicine to add to the comprehensive care and expertise provided for pets by Barton Lodge vets.
For over ten years our Head Veterinary Nurse Nicci Hawes RVN has lead our team of enthusiastic qualified and trainee Veterinary Nurses. Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre is an offical approved Tier 2 Training Practice where Veterinary Nurses gain their VN qualification and has received RCVS accreditation. In 2005 Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre gained recognition of our whole practice committment to staff training and development in the form of the Investors in People business award. The practice was reaccredited for Investors in People and for the Tier 2 Practice Standards Scheme in Spring 2008. You can see pictures and more information about our team in 'OUR STAFF'.
