my dog limps

12.05.2006

i have a female dog, and she had puppies a while back, (last year christmas time) and we noticed while she was pregnant she was limping when she got up and started walking. We assumed it was a puppy inside hr laying in an acword possition. But lately she has started limping again, when she stands up and walks. She doesn't cry, and i dont think it causes her pain, but im worried incase it does. My nans dog had the same, and she had to have an operation to put the knee cap back in place. Will my dog need that?

Dear Savannah,

It is not possible to say why your dog is limping and exactly what treatment she might need. You don't say which leg is involved but presumably it is a hind leg problem you are describing. If she has limped on and off since Christmas that is 5 months duration and she really should be examined by a vet to determine what the problem is. Most dogs that limp are in a degree of discomfort if not pain so please arrange for her to see a vet as soon as possible.
