In season bitch

04.03.2010

I have two bitches in season, one fertile now and had pups last season so can't let male near her, is there anything we can give him to calm him down, he is trying to tear down doors to get to her. The two girls are also fighting. Thanks

Hello Carole
Thank you for your question, which sounds like it might have needed a more urgent reply than we have been able to supply on-line. There is unfortunately no medical treatment that has an instant effect in calming down the sexual urges of a male that has scented a bitch on heat. The urge is very powerful, especially when the female is right there in the same building. Sex hormones are truly flying around between all your dogs and probably are also the reason that the two bitches are fighting, especially if they normally get on well.

Had you thought of neutering the male? That is the only thing to permanently solve the problem. Otherwise you will potentially have this difficult situation several times each year plus the risks of more unwanted pregnanacies if you cannot keep them separated.
