Community | Ask The Vet Diet05.01.2009Hi, my cat Tiggy is registered with you and I am having trouble with her diet at the moment. Every time I give her wet food (Felix mainly) she has Diarrhoea. She has had Felix since she was a kitten. I have tried others (whiskas, gocat, tesco or asdas own)but they also cause Diarrhoea. I am currently feeding her a diet of Iams, is this ok? Can you suggest any wet food that may be kinder to her stomach,as she loves her wet food. Thank you for your help. - Lucie Page Hello Lucie, Thank you for your question. Some cats do have a sensitive digestive system and are easily upset by changes in diet. The wet foods tend to be richer than the dry cat foods so you will need to proceed with caution in finding a wet diet to suit Tiggy. I would recommend you try her on the Hills Adult Maintenance diets which come in tinned, dry and now pouch formulation. Always introduce one new diet at a time, very gradually over a number of days with slightly increased amounts. Of course if Tiggy's diarrhoea persists she should come and have a check up with one of our vets. Hills also make a range of especially digestible prescription diets for cats with a more easily upset stomach. If the problem was persisting or was more severe we might recommend one of these for Tiggy. - The Barton Lodge Veterinary Team Back |
